"Turn Back the Clock"

Nostalgia Night:
A Night to Remember

"You had to put your coat on to go to the washroom." "We looked out for one another." "Oh, those were fun times." "My favorite teacher was Sister. . ." These are a few of the statements heard over and over in the Parish Hall, on Sunday, December 30th.

The Parish Council sponsored a "Turn Back the Clock" event, where parishioners, new and long-time, were welcomed to a celebration of the history of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church. Approximately 50 people attended. Father Larry came up with the idea for this afternoon after attending a few funerals and hearing various parishioners’ stories. He feels it is important to preserve our early, and living, History.

Groups of 3 or 4 people were videotaped for a few minutes each, reliving "The Good Old Days". Stories of school, holidays, traditions, past teachers and pastors are some of what was discussed. There were many smiles that afternoon, some thoughtful, some sentimental, some surprised, as people reminisced.

Many individuals helped to make this event special. We would like to thank the Video Director, Josh Poellot for helping us, and Pranas Pranckevicius, who scanned vintage pictures non-stop, (in fact he had to finish during the following week!). [Actually, Pranas only finished four months later!] Thanks to his time and efforts, we now have copies of these wonderful photos available in our parish history files.

Frank Wozniak brought a box of unbelievable mementos to share, including his Mother’s impressive Communion veil and certificate, which were preserved in a shadow box. Thank you to all who helped share and record our Parish heritage, allowing us all to celebrate our history and traditions, even as we plan our future.
