Over eleven hundred years ago, the brothers Cyril and Methodius journeyed from their native Thessalonica in Greece to Greater Moravia, the homeland of the Slavic people. The saints were linguists, evangelists and teachers. As champions of the right of the faithful to celebrate the sacred mysteries in their own language, Cyril and Methodius, in 1980, were proclaimed co-patrons of Europe by Pope John Paul II.
PRAYER
Father, you brought the light of the gospel to the Slavic nations
through Saint Cyril and his brother Saint Methodius. Open our hearts to
understand your teaching and help us to become one in faith and praise.
Grant this through Christ our Lord. AMEN
