Eligibility rules for extracurricular activities
Extracurricular activities include drama, plays, clubs,
student council and athletics. We have a very large portion of our
student population that takes advantage of the many activities, choir, art,
athletics, school newspaper, yearbook band, music, drama & library.
After report cards or progress reports are issued and released to the
parents first, then the report goes to activity moderators. The child will
be contacted the following week to review the school policy on participation
as well as to discuss ways to improve performance .
ELIGIBILITY FOR EXTRACURRICULAR PROGRAM
It is a firm belief that participation in extracurricular
programs contributes to the total development of he students at SS. Cyrill &
Methodius School. Students gain many positive benefits from these programs,
and are encouraged to become involved in these programs. However, it must be
made clear to students
that participation in extracurricular activities is a privilege and can be
taken away if certain conditions are not met.
In an effort to help students maintain a balance between extracurricular
involvement and the academic Program, we have established the following
criteria.
In order to participate in extracurricular programs, students are expected
to meet the following minimum standards for eligibility:
-
Academic average must be compatible with the student's
ability level.
-
Appropriate conduct must be maintained. Persistent and/or
serious misbehavior and disrespect will result in suspension from
extracurricular programs.
Guidelines
-
Students' progress will be reviewed at the time progress
reports and report cards are issued.
-
Students receiving a deficiency notice for academic or
behavior categories in two or more subjects, will be considered ineligible
for participation in extracurricular activities for a minimum of one week.
Student athletes must go to practice, but may not participate in actual
games, Restriction of practice may be made by the principal, coach, or
parent if necessary. If satisfactory academic progress or consistent proper
behavior improves after the one-week probation period, the student nay
return to the program.
-
These students will be reviewed every two weeks to insure
that progress is maintained.
-
After thee temporary suspensions, if academic progress or
proper behavior is not maintained, the student will be considered
permanently removed from the program for the current school year.
-
Adults responsible for extracurricular activities, i.e.
moderators, coaches, etc. will be notified of the ineligibility status by
the principal and/or Athletic Commission President.
-
There may be circumstances that warrant immediate probation,
or suspension from the extracurricular program.
