Collecting empty laser and inkjet printer cartridges

Dear Parents and Students,

We are participating in a special program that will generate free computer products for our school. The program is called Educational Technology and Conservation Exchange program, or ETCEP. Through ETCEP, our school is collecting empty laser and inkjet printer cartridges from our community. Collected cartridges earn points, which will then be exchanged for thousands of different classroom technology products. Our first year goal is to collect 3,500 empty cartridges. With over 243 million cartridges thrown away each year, this is a realistic goal, but we need your help!

We need to enlist the community in this effort. We are going to send press releases, advertise in the church bulletin, and ask businesses to help us. You, the parents and students, are our most important partners in this project!

We ask that as you use up cartridges, instead of throwing them away, send them to school. Parents, we ask that you enlist the help and cooperation of your employer. Those of you who own your own businesses can help us by giving us all of your empty cartridges. Those of you that work in offices or for large corporations can have your employer pledge all of their empty cartridges to you. so that your child can then bring them to school. If we get strong support from the parents, this project will be successful!

Your support of the ETCEP Program will help teach children that recycling makes dollars and sense. In the next seven years, if every used cartridge was recycled, we could build a bridge that would span from the Earth to the Moon! Visualize, on the other hand, 243 million cartridges being placed into the nation's landfills each year.

Start now! This collection will be ongoing! As long as ETCEP keeps recycling, we will keep participating. You'd throw these cartridges out anyway—help the Earth and St. Cyril's at the same time!

Cartridges That Qualify for ETCEP Points

The most common cartridges that qualify for ETCEP™ Points are listed below. Laser and inkjet cartridges have thousands of different names and model numbers; for this reason, ETCEP does not publish a complete list of qualifying cartridges. If you need help identifying the type of cartridges that you have, please visit our Cartridge Identification Wizard under Identifying Cartridges on the ETCEP website.

We encourage you to send in cartridges even if you are unsure of their type. Those cartridges sent to the ETCEP Program that have no point values will be disposed of in an environmentally sound fashion. PLEASE NOTE: Cartridge point values do change as the US market conditions fluctuate.

Acceptable Laser Cartridges

IMPORTANT: Only original cartridges are acceptable through this program. Previously remanufactured cartridges (i.e., Nashua, Data Products) ARE NOT ACCEPTED.
